Causes of mental illness
The most important causes that lead to mental illness include:
Mental illness classifies the state of its other physical diseases; It occurs due to genetic causes, organic causes, social reasons, and environmental reasons, and it varies from time to time, and varies in severity from one age to another, meaning that the diseases of aging psychiatry that affect the elderly, such as Alzheimer’s, and dementia are different from the diseases that It affects young people, such as schizophrenia or depression.
Mental illness occurs due to the presence of imbalances in the neurotransmitters in the nervous system, or the presence of atrophy in the brain cells, due to the person’s injury to a certain organic disease, his exposure to harmful radiation, or his injury to one of the incidents that directly affect the functions of the brain.
Sadness may play a role in the occurrence of mental illnesses, but it is not considered a major cause of its occurrence except in people who have a genetic predisposition to receive this disease, and the following organic diseases, such as diabetes, stress, and ulcers.
Psychiatry deals with matters and spaces that are difficult to explain .. Its direct influence and area of interest extend to human relations in its various forms .. What makes the diagnosis and treatment of disease not easy.
This field deals with matters such as awareness, decision and motivation, and builds upon them his perception of disease and health, in addition to other areas that are more difficult to define, such as free will and one’s insight into himself. The influence of this direct field and its area of interest extends to human relations in its various forms. That is, it is concerned with everything that makes humans “human.” And measuring these things is not like measuring blood pressure or sugar level, and then the diagnosis and treatment of the disease is not as easy.
In 2018, the Egyptian Ministry of Health published a national mental health survey, aimed at measuring the prevalence of mental disorders in the Republic for the year 2017, the survey showed that 25% of Egyptians suffer from symptoms and mental disorders !!!!
Addiction Cure
Addiction is a condition that enslaves the person and makes him a servant subject to it and relies on it psychologically. It is the seed of mental and physical illness. It is also slow suicide, as a result of continuous addiction to one or more narcotic substances “drugs” This use doubles in a short time, resulting in the greatest damage that can be caused. To death, the addict loses his mind and is unable to carry out his daily duties, even if he thinks about stopping drug addiction, he has lethal withdrawal symptoms.
5 steps to drug addiction treatment
Here are the 5 most important steps that you must have and follow in treating addiction.
1- Intervening and convincing the patient of treatment
Most addiction patients live in a state of denial and refuse treatment, so the role of addiction treatment centers is the psychological rehabilitation of the patient, which begins before the patient joins the hospital, where psychological methods are used commensurate with the condition and personality of each patient, to persuade him to quit drugs. (Read fully: Convincing an addict to refuse treatment)
2- Conducting a medical examination and a thorough health check
As soon as communication begins between the patient and the hospital, he undergoes a thorough examination and conducts intensive analyzes to find out the extent of the deterioration in his health condition, the effect of the drug on it, and the appropriate comprehensive treatment program, after which a file is placed in which all medical notes are recorded and kept in complete confidentiality.
3- Withdrawing toxins from the body and countering the withdrawal symptoms
Here begins the actual addiction treatment plan and the real confrontation between the patient and the addiction, in which a drug program is used that is commensurate with the condition of each patient, the type of drug and the length of the period of abuse, and aims to gradually withdraw toxins from the body and reduce the symptoms of withdrawal so that it passes without pain.
4- Individual and group psychotherapy sessions and behavioral change
This stage aims to search for the psychological causes that led the patient to the circle of addiction and treat it to eliminate the problem from the source and ensure that it does not recur again, and this is through:
Conducting regular psychological therapy sessions.
Continuous group meetings, making friends, and a therapeutic community that is supportive and motivated to continue treatment.
Involving family members in the treatment plan and raising awareness of the importance of their roles in helping the patient recover.
Treating the illnesses and psychological effects of depression and schizophrenia as a result of addiction, to ensure that the patient is not forced to use drugs again.
5- Social rehabilitation and reintegration of the patient into public life again
The role of treatment does not end after the patient leaves the place of addiction treatment and stops using drugs, but moves to another chapter of treatment that is more sensitive and dangerous, and this stage aims to teach him behaviors and instructions to follow abroad in addition to training him to deal with levels of stress and anxiety through several activities .
